Signal processing

Signal processing takes processes data of varying types, such as sounds and images, and turns it into a usable form for an intended purpose. For example, an automated transcription program takes words in and produces text to transcribe what it “heard.” Examples of research conducted in this area at ASU include developing technology that allows solar panels to adapt to conditions that diminish their efficiency and using data gathered from smartphones’ microphones to signal the onset of a respiratory disease.
