Override forms
Need permission to enroll in a course? Find your situation below, gather the requirements, then submit one request with everything included.
Undergraduate
Prerequisite taken outside of ASU
Attach a transcript or enrollment screenshot showing the course. Complete courses must show a grade.
Internship or independent study (484, 492, 493, 499)
Get faculty approval and complete the independent study paperwork. Attach a screenshot of the approval email.
Graduate course (not in 4+1)
Email the professor with your transcript and why you are ready. Attach the approval, then ask your advisor to start a petition.
Timing: Reviewed as received, up to one week before the semester starts.
Graduate
Course permission (590, 590, 595, 599, 784, 790, 792, 795, 799)
Combine the course permission form, faculty approval, and transcript into one document. Add the 5-digit class number (SLN).
Course owned by another school
SCAI cannot approve these. Submit the override through the school that owns the course.
Timing: Spring 2027 priority deadline: Nov 20. CSE and SER granted one week before the semester; CEN and IEE on an ongoing basis.
Know before you submit
- Overrides are never approved for full sections or time conflicts.
- Submit one complete request. Missing items restart the process.
- Professor approval does not guarantee a seat. SCAI students receive priority over others.
- Don’t submit duplicates or email advising to expedite your request.
- Overrides are single-use. Enroll only once a seat opens.
- Campus students can’t take ASU Online sections, and vice versa.
